Echo Park is a little rougher around the edges than its hipster
neighbor, Silver Lake. You’ll find coffee shops, local pubs, street
art and vinyl shops, plus the renovated Echo Park Lake.
In Westside LA, Culver City is a fantastic neighborhood for
aspiring photographers. It’s an arts and production hub,
and its proximity to Venice ain’t bad, either.
Students at USC’s Roski School learn traditional, digital and new
media techniques and dig deep into history and critical theory.
Roski also offers top-notch study-abroad art programs through
Syracuse University and University of the Arts London.
CalArts’ BFA and MFA programs in Photography and Media
have a basis in photo but also cover motion work,
installation, new media and performance. Try this program
if you’re interested in learning about social documentary
and activism within a fine-art setting.
