Plus Portable 5TB
Between 4K video and ultra-high-resolution still images, file sizes continue to grow.
Seagate’s new Backup Plus Portable 5TB
drive, the industry’s highest-capacity mobile
drive on the market (as of this writing), should
help you keep pace with these mushrooming
megabytes. The Backup Plus uses the company’s BarraCuda internal drive with Seagate
Dashboard software to help you organize and
customize your backup options. The drive
works with PCs out of the box and with Macs
after you install a free NTFS driver. It connects
to both PCs and Macs via USB 3.0. Size-wise,
the drive measures in at 117 x 78 x 22mm and
sports an aluminum cover. It’s sold in black,
silver, red and blue.
With action cameras like the KeyMission delivering high-quality video in ultra-compact
packages, it stands to reason that filmmaking
accessories will downsize as well. The Movie
Maker is a petite, portable slider that can
mount your action cam so you can achieve cinematic camera movements like gentle pans. It
has eight speed settings with a bounce-back
feature that will send the camera back and
forth across the rail when it hits the end of the
track. The slowest speed, 6mm per minute,
is ideal for time lapses, while the top speed
of 300mm per minute is ideal for faster cuts.
The slider can push a camera up at a 90-de-
gree angle and can also operate upside down.
It comes with a remote to control speed and
slide direction and can also be operated manually. If you pop the camera mount off the rails,
you can place it on a tripod to take 360-degree
panoramas. You’ll get two hours of operation
on two AAA batteries, but can plug into an optional power pack to get extended time.
